2010 Butches of the Bay Photo Shoot!

Standard

Blac Gurlz Ink 2010 Butches of the Bay Selectees!

The Blac Gurlz Ink’s 2010 Butches of the Bay photo shoot took place this weekend and I must personally say that the wonderful energy of the models, the organic approach I take to photo shoots and Jennipur Jane’s (Ephemeral Studios) phenomenal eye, led to an amazing time and some great photos to work with for our 4th series release!

Our open casting call, which ran from April thru July of 2009 and which we posted to our website; Myspace page; circulated via our newsletter and flyers and spread by word of mouth, yielded quite a few submissions but due to location, date, time etc. — some were not able to be selected, however ALL submissions were placed into our Model’s Database for consideration for future photo shoots!

These handsome women represent a cross section of the submissions we received and the Blac Gurlz Ink Babes feel that based on the models’ energy, personal expression of their “butch-ness,” in addition to being simply handsome…well, we’re happy with our picks!

Now, if you’re thinking, “I dont see this or that represented?”  Well, that means YOU need to model for us!  In keeping with being “authentic” in our designs for the LGBT community, we will not use professional models and thus we wont ever “get” someone to “represent” you.  And well…if you didn’t submit your info during the casting call period…well? Im just saying…

The Blac Gurlz Ink staff would love to get as many of you onto our quality premium greeting cards and

Thanking the Models - Outtake 2

gift items as we can!  We believe “visibility” is important and we have tons of ideas for which we will be putting out calls for submissions — but why wait!

You can submit your information to model for us by completing our Model’s Submission Form on our website:  www.blacgurlzink.com

Also, if you haven’t already joined our email newsletter list, in which we announce all of our casting calls, contests and fun information, what are you waiting for? *Click on the Join the BGI Network at the top of any page on our website.

So look for the release of the Butches of the Bay series — coming soon!!

Happy New Year,

It’s Raining In London Today

Standard
The View from My Window

The View from My Window

The weather during this journey has been simply marvelous but this morning I woke to rain which is so appropriate right now…a cleansing rain.

This has been an amazing  journey for me — the first in my 49 years on this planet where I have taken something on solely FOR ME and the energy around that has been amazing, revealing, surprising and well…all I can do is count my blessings.

Blac Gurlz Ink(BGI) turned 1 yr on Oct. 10th and to already be at a point where we are actually going into overseas markets to promote our greeting cards…well, that usually takes place in years 3 thru 5 of a business!  So for us to be at this point now…I KNOW I am blessed.

It has been hard work, long hours, sleepless nights and tons of prayer to get BGI here and as the Supreme One, I have to thank all of the Angels who have “stepped up to the plate” to actively help me make this dream possible.

Total strangers have been supportive of me and that has been my biggest blessings.  I truly had to surrender to Spirit and to allow those who “needed” to get to me…to get to me…as someone who I consider a good friend said to me…”let us help you…we ARE and CHOOSE to be YOUR Angels.”

So as I sit in my quaint little room (space is premium in these here parts…haha!) I reflect on what I

My Room

My Room

asked Mother/Father God for…to be successful as defined by Me — which has way more to do with the “quality” of My Life than it does the money I make.  I asked for support, to be surrounded by those who are positive and loving influences, to have doors just fly open — haha! and of course to make tons of money so that I can provide for me, those I consider to be My Tribe and to be a good ambassador for my community.

Im off to Paris in a few days and in this moment of reflection…I am utterly content and absolutely grateful for each and every moment that has passed and the exciting ones yet to come…and so it is…

Choose a theme, such “Winter Wonderland” or “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” Cut out the pictures and arrange them on a piece of cardboard (a cereal box is ideal)Glue (Modge Podge works well for this craft) the pictures to the cardboard and then brush Modge Podge on the top of the pictures for a strong glossy finish. After it dries, cut in puzzle size pieces with an Xacto knife.

Christmas Gift Tags
This is so easy. Cut the front of an old Christmas card or just the picture from any greeting card. Punch a hole and place ribbon through it.

Wall Plaques
Your local craft store sells wooden plaques in all different shapes and sizes. Paint or stain the wood. After it dries, use Modge Podge to glue the picture to the plaque. Put another coat of Modge Podge over the picture for a glossy finish. This can be great in place of a holiday card or Christmas card.

Place Mats
Glue your pictures to cardboard. (You may want to paint the bottom of the cardboard first.) Laminate or use clear Con-tac paper.

Framed Art
Your favorites designs can be framed and hung on the wall. Or artfully arrange a few personalized greeting cards in one frame.

How to Make a Greeting Card

Standard
Handmade Lesbian Wedding Card

Handmade Lesbian Wedding Card

It’s funny how things work out.  I never thought in a million years that I would be in the greeting card business.  Hell, at several points in my Life I have been content to be a worker bee…hahaha!

Blac Gurlz Ink, for me, came about due to two reasons…my first girlfriend lived on the opposite coast and when I wanted to send her a card just to say I was thinking of her — there was nothing out there.  The second reason, I love graphic design.  Somehow this Taurus decided that the two should form some breathing entity to catapult me onto the cover of Forbes! *haha, you’re laughing…bring me the issue and I will autograph it for you…hahaha!

I’m stepping way out of my personal comfort zone with this and excitedly so.  To be honest, though, this is ONE, of a few thing in my life, I am certain is the right thing to do!

Now being a creative cookie I am always on the lookout for info, ideas, and opportunities to expand and be better at what I am doing…I’m working on getting the formula just right.

Handmade Gay Wedding Card

Handmade Gay Wedding Card

I make handmade greeting cards, in addition to coordinating the various photo shoots that are subsequently transformed into our greeting cards.

So tonight, after a very exciting and energizing day I find I cant sleep and cant work because its late so I go looking for info and ideas to bring to you and what do I find…an article on how to make a greeting card!  I think it’s pretty interesting and of course if you put your personal spin on it…well, Viola!

Some might say, “why would she tell folks how to make a card vs. buying one of hers?” Well, the way I see it, some days you might want to make them yourself (and why not have a guide of some sort) and others you might feel like  “oh bust it, I’ll just buy one from Blac Gurlz Ink!” hahaha!

I think our greetings cards are a hot item and once folks learn about us and that we’re using “real” lesbians vs. professional models in our design concepts, to give our product a more “authentic” look and to provide a more “accurate” representation of the lesbian community…well, we have no worries…there is enough of everything for us all!

Now for the instructions and check out our greeting cards, we currently have 3 series up and the 4th, Butches of the Bay will be released late 2009!      http://www.blacgurlzink.com

INSTRUCTIONS provide by brokengirl (an eHow community member):

1. Go to your local arts & crafts store and get all the necessary things you need. I would also include paint on the list…a tricky ingredient in making the greeting cards is the feather quill pen that can be found at Barnes & Noble or Michael’s.

2. Cut the large sheets of handmade paper in halves and then bend them together so they have a crease down it’s spine…You can open and close them at this point and you are on your way to creating a greeting card.

3. Write the greeting. It can be words of inspiration or a poem. Do the writing in india ink with the feather quill pen and it will look magnificent! Choose the celebration greeting, from Christmas Eve to Congrats to the newly weds or proud parents.

4. Decorate. It is always fun to decorate a surface. Now you can attach any images you may have or write more words with coloured markers. Stickers are always a good choice when decorating.

5. Are you just going to give the person the greeting card or are you going to put it in an envelope send? Make sure you buy over-sized envelopes to fit your handmade cards!

Demonstrations

Standard

It never ceases to amaze me how My Mother/Father God sends me “demonstrations” (signs that she loves and hears me) right when I need them…when doubt wants to deter my steps.

Well, Saturday was a most amazing demonstration day.  It was to be an early day because I had a meeting with the models for our upcoming photo shoot, Butches of the Bay.  My best friend came to fetch me and we arrived early…Im OCD ya’ll…or at least that’s what the psych community calls it…I call it being organized.  Haha!

So we get to the studio for our first meeting with the models selected and wow…the studio was decorated so nice and the models had already begun to arrive.

Now ya’ll we’re a new business (Dec. 08) so these women are really “volunteering” their time and images to make this venture a success. They TRUST that I have the vision AND the courage to make this business a success.  Being a Taurus, it is either serve or suffer and I find that in my Life I seek “purpose”…yes, I am purpose driven.  The unique thing about this particular “purpose driven venture” is that it’s mine and they believe in it…in me… enough to commit to everything I am asking of them thus far.

It’s funny because as I sat and looked at their faces, diverse, shy, witty, full of laughter…beautiful…I was humbled and felt renewed in the vision I started last year with my partner and even more determined to make Blac Gurlz Ink a successful greeting card business and to, YES!… be on the cover of Forbes Magazine as a Rising Phoenix from the Ashes of 2008…a success story, not in the making…but MADE!

A Happy Supreme One…leading by example, always!
